Arts YOUniversity Expands, OnStage Alumnus Teaches Acting Classes

Want to hone your acting skills? Now is the time! Our own Dan Spalluto, who has been a fixture at Kelsey Theatre for the past ten years, is teaching an adult acting class at Arts YOUniversity beginning this fall.

Arts YOUniveristy is a facility well known to Maurer Productions OnStage alumni. Last season the Artistic Directors of Arts YOUniversity, Michael McClure and Susanne Trani-McClure, kindly made their dance studios available as a rehearsal space for the cast of last season's Perry-nominated production of Singin' in the Rain. Michael and Suzanne's contribution was a tremendous help to the production, so we are happy to report that Arts YOUniversity is thriving and undergoing a major expansion this summer that involves the addition of new studio space, enlarging the lobby, installing flat screen TVs for parents to watch classes, and constructing a permanent 200-seat theater. This fall, new classes have been added, including a new program that allows adult students to purchase a card for 10, 20, 30 or an unlimited number of classes per session. Classes can be used for whatever classes you wish to take: tap today, acting tomorrow, Zumba next week, etc. For more info, check out the school’s web site at www.artsyouniversity.com.

Dan will be teaching two of the Arts YOUniversity acting classes this fall. Classes for teens, ages 13 to 18, will start the week of September 8. The acting class for adults, ages 19 and up, start on Thursdays, September 18 at 8 pm. The adult class is appropriate for all levels of experience in community theater. Even those who have been acting for many years in community theater productions can learn from Dan's experience.

Dan has an extensive background in theater and brings over 20 years of stage and screen experience his classes. He is a member of SAG, AEA, AFTRA, and holds a Masters Degree in Communications and Theater from East Stroudsburg University. He has performed in several Off-Broadway productions and you may have seen him in HBO’s America Undercover, NBC’s Unsolved Mysteries, or in the movie American Crude with Rob Schneider [directed by Craig Sheffer (A River Runs Through It and One Tree Hill)]. Dan is an adjunct faculty member of Mercer County Community College, where he teaches acting. Dan has also worked extensively as a director, actor and educator through Like-40 Productions, a theater production company he founded with students and alumni of Mercer County Community College.
